To The Event-Video
More than 500 graduates, professors, and partners of WU Vienna University of Economics and Business gathered at Campus WU on June 12, 2025, for the WU Alumni Lounge—the exclusive networking event held as part of the annual summer party. The evening was marked by a strong sense of solidarity, reflecting the close bonds within the WU alumni community.
Despite the tragic incident in Graz, WU decided to proceed with its annual summer festivities, including the WU Alumni Lounge. The evening began with a minute of silence led by Rector Rupert Sausgruber and joined by international guests from business, academia, and society. Together, they honored the victims of the attack, their families, and all those affected.
In his following address, Rector Sausgruber emphasized the importance of unity and resilience in difficult times. The WU Alumni Lounge became a powerful symbol of a supportive and connected community.
At the same time, Rector Sausgruber looked ahead and underlined the importance of education and lifelong learning. In this spirit, he welcomed Bodo B. Schlegelmilch, founding and interim dean of the WU Executive Academy. Together, they celebrated two significant milestones: 20 years of the WU Executive Academy and 25 years of the Global Executive MBA.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the TALENTA 2025 Award by the City of Vienna, as well as the Engelbert Dockner Master’s Thesis Award. These awards recognize young WU graduates whose theses demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and a spirit of innovation. The awards ceremony was hosted by ORF journalist Mari Lang.
Later in the evening, guests took the opportunity to engage in personal conversations. The WU Alumni Lounge remained the go-to place for meaningful connections and community spirit until late into the night. The event concluded with a moving tribute on campus, where students, researchers, faculty, staff, and guests came together in a sea of lights to commemorate the victims.
