Engines of Growth for Central and Eastern Europe: Market-creating innovations, agile organizations and motivated people

The Covid-19 pandemic has revealed again the fragility of markets when hit by unexpected external shocks. At the same time, we have seen how companies responded to these challenges quickly by adapting their product portfolios and using innovation to grow in new markets. Central and Eastern Europe is a region where we can find a thriving startup scene with visionary entrepreneurs and many success stories.

We invite entrepreneurs, executives and academics to discuss the innovation potential of the CEE region as well as the enablers and barriers to successful commercialization. What characterizes companies that were able to leave behind existing patterns of thinking, anticipate trends and develop innovative solutions for the problems of our time? How difficult is it to find adequate funding and talented and motivated people in CEE?

The list of speakers includes among others:

  • Pavel Prucek, Head of Product of TWISTO, the Czech payments pioneer
  • Robert Agnič, CEO of Plastika Skaza, the Slovenian manufacturer of eco-friendly plastic products
  • Sigrid Hantusch-Taferner, Country Manager Austria of Codecool, the innovative Hungarian coding school
  • Gaby Deussen, VP Financial of Henkel Eastern Europe, a leading technology and consumer goods company in CEE
  • Maria Baumgartner, Founder of wecanbeheroes.io, a new platform that matches startups and talents
  • Andreas Nemeth, CEO & Managing Partner, UNIQA Ventures, the venture capital arm of UNIQA Insurance Group
  • Rudolf Dömötör, Director, Entrepreneurship Center, WU

The Grow East Congress is organized by the Competence Center for Emerging Markets & CEE at WU Vienna, ICONIC Consulting/Neusicht Think Tank and Aussenwirtschaft Austria, the international arm of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO).
